Jet-setting to a private island on a cruise ship isn’t exactly a new thing. Most cruise lines have their own. However, we recently discovered that MSC Cruises’s newest private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, would be like no other. And wow, are we excited to explore this tropical paradise!?
Once you dock on the island’s white sandy beaches, you’re transported to a unique Caribbean destination. This magical place – only 68 miles from Miami and located in the Bahamas – entices you to relax and connect with the natural beauties and musings of the island. Inside Ocean Cay, you’ll be pleasantly delighted to uncover all its gems, breathtaking sights, and exciting and enriching activities. You’ll never want to leave!
Below, we’re sharing why we’re excited about MSC’s newest private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.
A Private Island that Does Good
So what makes Ocean Cay a marine reserve? It starts with the sea floor. According to MSC’s website, “a team of marine biologists carefully removed 400 individual hard coral colonies from debris on the ocean bed and relocated them to a location that will allow them to grow and flourish for years to come.” Plus, over 75,000 native species of plants have been added to Ocean Cay to create a lush and healthy environment. On the island itself, a Conservation Center will be house biologists, coral reef experts and students for marine research and education.
And that’s not all that’s being done to promote sustainability. Ocean Cay will be solar powered, completely free of single-use plastics, and all beauty products used will be biodegradable and eco-friendly.
Now this is a private island that not only makes you feel good on the outside (lounging on a white sandy beach can do wonders), but on the inside as well.
Endless Fun in the Sun
Just because Ocean Cay is making sustainability a priority doesn’t mean it won’t be any less exhilarating. From sun up to sun down, there’s various exciting activities you can enjoy. Favorites include snorkeling around a shipwreck, deep sea fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. There’s even Latin dance classes! If you’re traveling with children, make sure to sign up for the beachside stargazing event!
Don’t forget to take your tastebuds on an adventure with all the delicious culinary options available at Ocean Cay. Enjoy authentic Bahamian flavors and American classics at the Seakers Food Court. (It’s a buffet so be shy!) Worked up an appetite after a round of beach volleyball? Nosh on some quick bites from one of the food trucks found on the island. And when that sweet tooth craving hits, satisfy it with an ice cream from The Smiling Fish Bar & Coffee Bar. Oh, and of course, there’s plenty of bars to choose from if you’re in need of a tropical drink with a cute umbrella. (This is where the drink package comes in handy!)
R&R at Ocean Cay
What’s a private island, if not the best place to seek a little R&R. There’s plenty of ways to unwind, relax, and indulge on Ocean Cay. Find your center by scheduling a morning yoga session on the beach. Stroll on over to The Spa Ocean Cay and book a tantalizing beachside massage. And if you’re visiting with your partner, sign up for the Sunset Champagne Cruise. We can’t think of a better way to end your night than with a romantic evening boat cruise and unlimited wine and champagne. Life is good!
