Break Free from a Boring Antigua Vacation with These Top Activities

When I go on vacation, I like to be an active participant. I crave adventure! When you vacation in the Caribbean, you can lounge on a pristine white sandy beach and work on your tan. But that gets boring after a while. Here are my recommendations for getting off the beaten path in Antigua. Warning! Once you go off the beaten path, you may not want to come back.

Hike to Shirley Heights

This former military complex was named after Sir Thomas Shirley, Governor of the Leeward Islands. Hiking (use a guide) to the summit is challenging, especially when the Antiguan heat beats down upon you. But it’s worth it! Afterward, stop into Shirley Heights Lookout Bar and Restaurant. On Sundays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., local bands perform Caribbean music, the BBQ is fired up, and the drinks flow.

Embrace Your Daredevil at Devil’s Bridge

Adventure lovers, check out Devil’s Bridge! It was formed due to the waves crashing into Antigua’s East Coast for thousands of years. Geysers and blowholes will surround you as you cross; the waves continuously break on the rocks. You can’t swim Devil’s Bridge because it’s slippery. Warning! Walk across at your own risk.

See the Pillars of Hercules

This amazing limestone rock formation protects the entrance to the English Harbour. You have to hike to get to the pillars, so you may opt to see the pillars from a boat or Fort Berkeley. But if you’re up for the climb, you won’t be disappointed. Why? Because it’s a great place to dive and snorkel and see stingrays, trumpet fish, and blue tangs.

Are You Ready to Do and See Different Things in Antigua?

Antigua tours and excursions are abundant on this Caribbean island. But you may want to opt for those that take you off the beaten path. Why? Because you can experience and see things that others haven’t. Then enjoy romance and relaxation on pure white sands at Sandals Grand Antigua which is one grand all-inclusive resort. See you soon in the Caribbean!
